Dressin' up a t-shirt

I have a cheap frill sleeve shirt in the cupboard, but it just doesn't thrill me, so picking up the (nearly matching) doily at Vinnies recently I thought I better get to and sew it on...

I love it....

Apron for a Dora fan

We went to a birthday party recently for a sweet little 3 yr old who just adores Dora...so I made this apron and little dilly bag for her.

The little lamb print was a cushion panel, that is sewn into the band, so it goes over the top of the stripe.  I used vintage lace to dress up the ruffle.

I have found that when making aprons, the sash can never be long enough, I make them so they wrap around to the front now and kids can tie it themselves.  It looks cute too.

I made some rosettes and sewed them onto the bag strap

Aprons for school fundraiser

Recently we had a school fundraiser, so I thought I would make some little aprons...these two are matching colours but slightly different.  It would be cute for them to be worn by little sisters...

Personalised Shopping Bags

Hitting the past bigtime today...

These are some appliqued shopping bags I made when I had just the two kiddlywinkers and thought this might distract them and be fun at the shops... well only used them once at the shops but they have been good for heaps of stuff and my son still uses his all the time.

I did fruit and vegies on the front, I just did a tight zig zag stitch on the machine around these

I did a froggie pocket on the back

I lined the insides with a coordinating fabric...

Nursery Mobile - Pink, Green and Red

When my third little sweetie was born, I wanted to make her a special mobile and at the time I love pink, green and red together and had coordinating fabrics floating around so I make this mobile.

It took a few weeks, once I had hand sewn the pieces together and worked out how many etc....I kept them at different distances apart so yon can see each strawberry, heart, birdie or owl. 

I didn't  have an embroidery hoop so I bent an old coathanger, then sewed two pieces of lace together, right on the edge, threaded some deep red velvet ribbon through and threaded this onto the coathanger.  Then handsewed it together.

Here is the finished product...

I made three birds, three owls, three hearts and three strawberries.  Each one has an alternate colour on the opposite side to keep it interesting when it turns around.

For added texture, I added a feather boa when my sweetie was littlier and she loved running her cheek against it....

 

Upcycled Lace Summer Scarf

Well, again I haven't done that much of late, but just prepare kidlets for school and enjoy the holidays.  I have found some great printable lunchbox notes sites just by doing a google search and I am really enjoying writing two inspirational notes on the kids bag tags and a secret one in their lunchbox. I find it really helped my son want to learn to read last year and it is something personal about how they are going, what they can do or just "Niceness is kindness" which went on one today,..

I am trying to give them encouragement at the things they are good at or have done well the day before.

A friend also told me she engraves special notes into their banana skins...what a lovely idea.  I will post some pics later.

Here is a scarf I made the other day, I had some leftover muslin, very light and breezy fabric.  Then some old cotton  scallop edging. I sewed this onto the bottom of the muslin and then sewed around each large lace rose. It creates the effect of one whole piece, but it just helps dress up some dull outfits.

Carols by candelight

We finally made it to a Carols by Candlelight for the first time this year....but alas, half an hour into the carols, it poured raining so we hotstepped it back to my sister's for a campover which was a lot of fun!

 We made our very first Xmas shirts this year too, my 5yr old made one at kindy that needed to be prettied up so she glued on decorations onto her shirt and we printed a silhouette of our rescue doggy and painted onto my son and daughter's shirts,...(so they could for once have matching shirts) and they decorated them.....very personal they were.  Also so the girls matched too, we put fairy wings on the back of each shirt done in just felt, handsewn on (my 5 yr old sewed hers on) and then,...everybody matchs everybody, and my son had jingle bells on his sleeve with a handy little pocket for candy!!

50s Vintage Cowgirl Hens Night

So we had the Hens Night on the weekend and I haven't been able to post any of the fun projects I have been doing until the surprise was out.

Here they are... we went with a Vintage 50's Cowgirl theme as the bride loves vintage and is a cowgirl....

This is one with our vintage labels....mine was "Incredibly enough,...I don't give a S..T!" Bit rude, but thought it was classic.  We had heaps of great labels, like "Don't Get Smart With Me!", "Coffee, Do Stupid Things Faster!" you get the idea.  I am threading the candy hearts onto strings in this piccie.

And I just had to pop one in of my $10 fur coat, that the hen chose not to wear and I was very keen to wear it for this fun vintage occasion.....It was sooo warm!!  Just had to pop this photo in of one of my bestest friends since Primary School....What a honey!

I made this little raggy heart for decor as the shower.

Then blew up a photo of the sweet couple and painted onto fabric with acrylic paint (did have three attempts at this because the photo was pixelated and so would definitely recommend getting a really clear good pic to get the silhouette just perfect.) 

I made some cutesy (although not that little) conversation candy hearts for the shower and to wear around our neck at the hens party.  I had seen to write on the hearts with colouring, but time didn't allow and I don't think my lack of a steady hand would have worked,....so sort of punched in the writing I wanted with a skewer.

I thought they may be too sweet....but after that firecracker pasta a friend and I ordered....they were ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for settling some slightly hot lips!

I also found this cute little vintage man and wife at Vinnies and painted them white.

I wanted to make a vintage looking apron, so I found a gorgeous print, printed it onto transfer paper, ironed it onto calico (my printer did not work well at this even thought it is inkjet, the print wiped off if I touched it and is very pale....but Vintage......!!!! So I guess it worked out.  Then I blended the colours of the dresses that we planned to dress the bride in.
